food hunting at brickfields

it has been a while since i last did a full blog post on food. maybe i shall do one now. trust me, you are going to drool like mad after reading this post. haha!

'one day five meals' - a tv program which is hosted by chui ling, (i hope i spelled her name correctly) introducing lots of nice and cheap food in malaysia. anyway, what i'm trying to say here is that my aunt is a great fan of this tv show. she follows this show almost every week (despite the fact that she doesn't understand chinese at all) to see whether is there any nice food around kl, so she could go food hunting after watching it.

after watching this particular episode, we drove all the way to brickfields for dinner. my aunt wanted more variety of food, five of us followed her, so that she could order more.

oh well, i think we tried almost all of their specialties. yeah, that meal was superbly scrumptious, i would say. we ordered eight different types of dishes.

#1 'handmade' noodles

fyi, 'handmade' means that they actually make the noodles on their own. well, i'm not a noodle person, but i did enjoy this dish. okay, actually i like the gravy more than the noodles. but it was yummy, really.

#2 'pak guo'

errr, i don't know how to explain the meaning of 'pak guo'. i think it's actually made of flour, something like the 'pan mee' noodles. i personally don't really fancy this dish, i would say it's a bit 'je lak' (hokkien).

#3 deep fried yam cubes
this is one of my favourite. firstly, the yam cubes were deep fried (who doesn't like deep fried food?) and the gravy was yum yum. the sister said it was a bit too sweet for her, but since i'm a sweet tooth, how can i resist it? mind you, normally i'll never touch anything which is cooked with yam, but for this one? i gave in.

#4 'lala' and 'taufu' soup
owh, lala is love. but i've never tried lala soup before, so this was my first time. when i saw it on tv, i was wondering how will lala soup taste like. oh well, the soup was really tasty. soup lovers like me will definitely like this.

#5 fried egg with oyster
when i first saw this, i was like, woah! the oysters are really huge. for those who like oysters, you might fancy this dish. as for myself, i prefer the egg more. haha.

#6 squid and bean sprout

#7 three seafood with egg white
the three types of seafood are prawns, scallops and squid. i like this too, maybe it was because of the gravy again or maybe i'm a prawn lover. ahh whatever la, as long as it's yummy.

#8 chili hot fish head
omg, this was really spicy. i'll call this dish a taste bud killer. for people who can't take spicy food (eg. vinnie lee), it's strongly not advisable to order this dish. hehe.

restoran hing ang
p1-21, jln thambapillai, brickfields, 50470 kl.

you know what, we ordered eight dishes and six of us were eating, the bill came out to be less than rm100. awesome kan?

p.s. when i first walked into this restaurant, i thought i was in a mamak, 'cause there were so many indians there. haha!
