ipoh mali

this is an overdue post.

i promised vinnie to blog about my trip to ipoh since last month but i was just too lazy to blog about it. oh well, since promise is always a promise, i'm gonna do a post about ipoh right now.

you see, i'm always so nice to vinnie. (: for your information, she's a perak-ian.

but i'm gonna do something different this time. instead of posting pictures of places or food in ipoh, i want to do a short write-up about what i personally think about the capital of perak, ipoh.

the five 'the's'.

1.the nice hawkers
generally, hawkers in ipoh are really kind, nice, friendly, polite and you name it. this is what i first noticed when i was in ipoh for two days. no offence ya, i find hawkers in kl are a bit too arrogant and calculative if compared to the ones in ipoh, even my parents said so too.

i'll give you an example.

this is a small stall selling tau fu fah at the opposite of thean chun (in cantonese). just in case you don't know, thean chun is actually the name of a well-known coffee shop in ipoh.

so what i'm trying to say here is that the lady (in red) is one of the nicest hawkers whom we managed to talk to. i mean, she's really nice, she even allowed us to order food from the opposite coffee shop to eat at her stall. most of the hawkers in kl will never ever allow us to do so, but it seems to be a very common act in ipoh. that's why i say hawkers in ipoh are very cin cai (in hokkien) and also very very nice. they are more than willing to serve you your food no matter where you sit and they don't mind even if you bring in any outside food or if you order any food from any other coffee shops around the area.

i would say, this is really rare in kl.

2. the orange-green hotel

we stayed in hotel ipoh city because it was just right beside the restaurant where the wedding dinner was held. this hotel is actually connected to a row of shop houses, so yeah, this is my first time staying in a hotel which is not standing on its own.

my first impression towards this hotel wasn't a good one. i thought this must be a cheapskate hotel, wanted to blame my sis's friend for booking a room in this hotel. but i changed my mind when i first stepped into the hotel lobby. then i was like, woah, i didn't expect the lobby to be so well-designed.

i kid you not, there were lots of mirrors in the lobby and the reception area was not cheapskate at all.

i even took the opportunity to take pictures of myself in front of the mirror. ignore my ugly hair, can you see the reception area? so nice right?

the hotel room is very spacious and well-maintained. the toilet is really huge, two times bigger than my toilet at home. oh and before i forget to mention, the pillows smell like soflan too.

maybe we should call hotel ipoh city as the hotel you can call home 'cause it's very comfy and cozy.

3. the massive crowd
it was during the hari raya holidays when we were in ipoh. oh my god, there were so many people in ipoh. we saw people practically everywhere, especially at any places with good food. but if you were observant enough, you'll notice that most of the cars over there were not perak cars, which means people from other states actually came to ipoh during the holiday season. my family was one of them.

this is one of the very famous dimsum restaurant in ipoh. have you ever seen such grand dimsum restaurant in kl? okay, i'm not here to crap about the look of this restaurant. i want you to look at the crowd, where did all these humans come from?

even the take away section had lots of people queuing up. tapao also need to wait, so poor thing right?

crazy crowd! we had to wait so long just to get a table for four at every coffee shops or restaurants we went. it seriously tested our patience when we were there, but like i said, ipoh people are nice, so they made us feel better while waiting.

apparently, according to vinnie, this will only happen during holidays.

4. the delicious food
we went to lots of places to hunt for good and yummy food in ipoh. but i'm not going to post any pictures of food now, will do another post about ipoh food later.

so stay tune!

5. the not-so-interesting city
besides eating, there is nothing much you can do in ipoh. no places to visit or for sightseeing over there, unlike malacca where there are so many historical sites to visit.

so, the only place we went during our trip in ipoh was the shopping mall. we spent the whole afternoon shopping and yes, we bought a lot of stuffs.

my sis complained that if she were to stay in ipoh for life, she's gonna die of boredom because there are not much entertainment there. so let's pray that she will marry someone from ipoh. haha!

ipoh is like a food heaven, this sums it all.
